HSE Construction Plan Of Works 2014 - 2015

There has been significant improvement in the management of health and safety in some parts of the construction industry over the past few years. This has been particularly noticeable on larger projects, however this is not always reflected on smaller sites where unacceptable standards still exists.

During 2012 and 2013 39 construction workers lost their lives in the construction industry even though this is a reduction in construction related deaths since 2011 and 2012 these figures are still not acceptable and the HSE will strive to reduce them.

Their main operational activities will target the following areas

  • Work with Asbestos
  • Small sites and projects
  • Refurbishment projects
  • Home building
  • Major projects and large contractors
  • Local priorities

The following main operational activities the HSE will target on all site visits are

  • Work at height
  • Occupational welfare facilities
  • Site condition (housekeeping)

The following generic issues will also be addressed by the HSE during site visits

  • The management of health risks
  • Effective leadership
  • CDM duty holders
  • Contractor competence
  • Temporary works
